HORRORS
OF WAR

LAURA Z.

Hearts and Minds

This painting was done in Earthpaint. Done on the theme of “The Horrors of War,” this piece depicts a human heart, pierced by a flagpole which exalts the real modern god, the dollar. It also reflects the value of human life, as seen by those who make war and create violence for their own purposes. In the background, four ancient deities, an Aztec Mother Goddess, Buddha, the Venus of Villendorf, and a Babylonian protector, are fenced in by barbed wire. A river of blood flows from the severed heart, on which a skeletal baby Moses floats to his fate.

Materials: Earthpaint on canvas. Lapis lazuli, Malachite, Jasper, Mica, slate, etc., in acrylic media.
